inspirations: émilie rigaud
Emilie Rigaud is a French graphic designer who also uses her 2d typographic designs and her fonts and create 3d installations with them. Personally I find typography very enjoyable and Emilie Rigaud puts typography in 3d form that we can touch or lay under its shadow using the surroundings as a blank paper. Very creative!

hyères international fashion and photography festival
I was checking the blog of Diane Pernet, an amazing fashion critic and a video-journalist, and heard about Hyères International Fashion and Photography Festival. This year’s festival is starting tomorrow. The designers, artist and photographers from all over the world went through a competition and got selected by professionals.
I watched the videos that are on the blog of Diane Pernet (filmed by Antoine Asseraf, Jason Last, Yoann Lemome ) about the festival and the young designers and photographers were bewildering, very inspirational! And the soundtrack of the videos were intense and also exciting that I wanted to jump in the middle of the scene. There is a very creative flow at the festival, check out the fashion designers, artists and photographers, also the introductory videos on the blog.
You can reach the videos at http://www.ashadedviewonfashion.com/

grainedit.com
A California based blog which is focused on retro designs, especially graphic design around 50s-70s. The site includes various information about the designers, also interviews. Very useful, enjoyable and inspiring blog!

banned, steven meisel
It is no surprise that Calvin Klein’s new TV ad is banned, again, the video was directed by Steven Meisel. A very beautiful and voluptuous video! This isn’t the first time for Calvin Klein, since their image is young sexy steamy greek statue-like boys and topless shiny dreamlike girls living their overcharged libido wearing CK jeans. Video is very provocative but not as provocative as photo shoot “Dogging” for Italian Vogue by Steven Meisel again. The photos weren’t accepted by the Italian Vogue but V magazine published them in US.
Dogging is a new sex trend which started in Britain, people having sex in public places especially in cars and open to audience and interaction.
Here is the Steven Meisel banned ad:
And here is the 90s ad which was banned (not Steven Meisel):
And some of the dogging photos:

bant magazine

Turkish art, culture, music magazine Bant is getting active on the internet. Apparently the writers and the illustrators of the magazine are now writing blogs on their website. Some of the blogs are in Turkish and some of them are English. Check http://bant.tv/
turkish blogs
I feel terrible about not posting anything for a long time, I was bookmarking thing on my Delicious though and studying and doing projects and trying not kill myself …etc.
A blog competition is taking place in Turkey right now, actually I’m surprised and also happy about the things shaping up, since blogging is a new concept for me and also for Turkey I suppose. I wish the blogs were in English, also the site of the competition. In order to improve the effect of the site and the competition, having the “English” option is a must. Therefore this is a calling from me to my colleagues, know that it is important to be international.
And about the blogs in the competition, most of them weren’t interesting me at all, but there were some blogs that have a future.
For the site of the competition click.
And some blogs:

cici can

All world is making fun of the old Turkish films. Turkish producers used to get inspired from Star Trek, Star Wars etc. and do the special effects in a primitive way. I suppose this one was inspired from Casper, it is called “Cici Can” and I think this film has a lot more than you expect. Although it has really funny special effects it still has a kind of aesthetics.
abondoned couches
An interesting blog that I found on wordpress. Four admins take photos of the couches that they see on the street and upload them to their blog. It is interesting because in Turkey you can’t see such a thing. Leaving couches at the street is not our thing. And I couldn’t believe the amount of the photos in the blog and it is nothing comparing to the rest of the States.

inspirations: brian dettmer
Brian Dettmer is an American artist, his works are based on cutting and shaping books and create three dimensional collages. Very creative and delicate handwork! The artist’s statement was this: “Old books, records, tapes, maps, and other media frequently fall into a realm that too much of today’s art occupies. Their intended role has decreased or deceased and they often exist simply as symbols of the ideas they represent rather than true conveyers of content. … When an object’s intended function is fleeting, the necessity for a new approach to its form and content arises.” (Valdez 2006)
